Art quilts and sundials
that have stories to tell

About Sara J. Schechner

Sara Schechner is an award winning quilter, curator, and historian of science whose work bridges the worlds of science, history, and art.  Her quilts tell stories, express feelings, and embody ideas.

Her quilts have been juried into national and international shows, including the International Quilt Festival in Houston, and various Quilt Fests around the US.  They have been displayed in museums and galleries, and recognized in publications.

Schechner's interest in sundials stems from her museum curatorial work with the two largest collections of portable sundials in North America (at the Adler Planetarium and Harvard University) as well as with large collections overseas.  In addition to authoring books and curating exhibitions, she has created interactive and monumental sundials for the Smithsonian Institution, outdoor learning centers, and summer solstice festivals.  Her achievements have been honored by the North American Sundial Society and the British Sundial Society.
