Wrong Again! 10 Myths Debunked
about Quilting History
All the things you thought you knew about the history of quilting but were wrong about! This talk shares surprising facts and remarkable stories about quilting in America, with a focus on New England: From the earliest bed quilts in the colonies to modern art quilts on walls. From quilts that built communities to those of social action and protest. The political economy of cotton. And what quilting bees were really for.
Did You Say Sundials?
Perhaps your garden club would like a speaker on sundials, their romantic history, and how to set up one properly so it will tell the correct time? Or maybe your astronomy club is interested in how people used to walk around with sundials in their pockets until they could afford to buy one of those newfangled watches? Or perhaps you always wanted to know what an astrolabe is and how to use one? Hands-on demonstrations and workshop activities can be arranged to go with any presentation.
If it's a matter of Time, I have a talk on that topic!

Workshops
Metamorphosing Quilts and Fiber Art
Learn how to show dynamic change in your quilts using dimensionality and the viewer’s changing perspective. Work with stop action from block to block. Use techniques of oblique viewing of flat and 3D surfaces that have zigzagging steps.
In this workshop, students will create their own small metamorphosing quilt. Some necessary supplies will be offered by the instructor.

Quilts on the Move!
Give a stained or torn quilt new life! Turn it into a jacket, a zippered pouch, tote bag, or teddy bear.
Guilds selecting this workshop will choose in advance what article the group will make. Instructions will be given about where to purchase the necessary sewing pattern.

From Photo to Fabric Collage
Learn how to transform an image into an appliqued art quilt. I will show you the steps from the selection of a good photo to the creation and scaling of templates, from choosing fabrics to the stitching of “paper dolls” and contextual elements, and lastly how to assemble these parts on a larger background.
