The goddess Liberty holds a lantern to light the way to freedom in 1775. Her lantern is one that Paul Revere saw hanging in the belfry of the Old North Church before beginning his famous ride. The original lantern survives in the Concord Museum. My depiction of Liberty is inspired by paintings circa 1810 of her giving sustenance to a bald eagle.
